How To Become a Referee

If you're looking to referee or run the line for competitive soccer in Windsor & Essex County then you've come to the right place. There are steps to take in order to officiate games and they are described here.

1) Register with the referee organization: Registration can be done by filling out and mailing the registration form found here 2009_registration_form.pdf or contacting a member of the executive for help (contact information is on the contact page).
As members of our organization we can assist you with the rest of the registration process, fill you in on training clinics, prepare you for certification tests, and fill you in on any special circumstances that may arise in your case. Also, members are included in the game distribution process in order to make sure games are given out fairly and evenly.

2) Register with the province: This can be done at http://soccer.on.ca/OSN.nsf/773fb79c924593a58525681c007d7e12/b5b1ac484b690675852575770047bbc3?OpenDocument
The fee is $25 if you're 14 or 15 years old, $40 if you're 16 or 17 years old, and $80 if you're 18 or older. All Ontario referees must be registered with the provincial soccer association known as OSA in order to do games under their jurisdiction (which is virtually all games in Windsor).
Beware, there is a $15 late fee for provincial registrations processed after May 1st. For up-to-date information on the province's prices and requirements you can visit their website by clicking here.

3) Take a training clinic: Contact us for dates and details as they're constantly changing.
If you're not yet certified, then beginner classes (District Referee) are what you're looking for. They're offered by almost all clubs in Windsor at different times and we'll try to keep the dates updated on our website. You must be 13 years of age as of April 1st to be eligible. If you're an experienced District Referee, are 16 years of age as of April 1st, and are looking to do more challenging games then the District Referee mainenance clinic and test is what you're looking for. The maintenance clinic is usually only offered once a year in Essex County before the season starts. It consists of an all day educational class and a separate classification test on another day. If you're looking to upgrade then be sure to let us know so we can contact you when the next test is aroung the corner.
